Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Care and Education)

Qualification Summary

The duration of this course is 4 days per week over a total 52 week timetable and is open to students who have already completed the Certificate III in Children’s Services. The Diploma of Children’s Services (Early Childhood Care and Education) extends and builds upon the student’s knowledge gained in the Certificate III.  This course explores areas of child development in detail, and includes the planning of the daily routine of centre-based care according to children’s individuals needs as well as establishing effective relationships with parents. On completion of the Diploma of Children’s Services the student will be able to work as a team leader/room leader with the opportunity for progressing to authorised supervisor/centre manager of a child care centre.

Training Methods

A combination of classroom learning, resource development, practical sessions, role plays, research and project work, plus work placement in a children’s services environment are all vital components of MEGT Institute child care courses.  As part of the course students are required to attend compulsory work placement one day per week arranged by MEGT Institute.

Assessment Methods

A combination of in-class activities including simulations, role plays, written assessments, questions and discussions, written tests, skills demonstration, work samples, projects, and work placement records will be used for the assessment of competency. Students will be assessed n the workplace against key learning outcomes.  Students will be marked either Competent (C) or Not Yet Competent (NYC) for each unit of competency and have the opportunity to obtain a Graded Mark for this course.

Pathways

Upon successful completion of this course students may enrol in a course at a higher level.  Graduates are eligible for credit transfer to undergraduate studies at an Australian University.  For NSW licensing requirements refer to the Department of Community Services Office of Childcare www.community.nsw.gov.au

Entrance Requirements

Completion of Certificate III in Children’s Services with relevant work-placement experience.  Overseas must show proof of their English language proficiency.  Minimum requirement is IELTS score 6 or equivalent.  Overseas students must be over 18 years of age.  NOTE: All students will be required to complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration at enrolment for all MEGT Institute Children’s Services Course.
